Page 62 - Overcoming Addiction
P. 62
Many more parallels could be demonstrated, but the point we are making is
that we can discern how to overcome addiction, and everything that stands in
opposition to the Kingdom of God, as we observe the history of Israel and
understand the parables the Father has given to us. We can also discern the
reasons why some men and women never attain victory over the flesh, for in Israel
we see an entire generation, save two men, who fell short of Yahweh’s desire for
them.
The pattern that God gives to us in the Scriptures is first we see a natural
example, then we arrive at the spiritual fulfillment. The Old Testament is filled
with the natural history of men and women, peoples and nations. They serve as
types and shadows of that which we find fulfilled in the New Testament. Even as
Joshua led the children of Israel into the land of promise to establish a kingdom
upon the earth, so too is Yahshua at work to establish the Kingdom of God. Yet the
Kingdom Yahshua is focused upon is not a kingdom that is external to man, but
one that is internal. It is a spiritual dominion where God will rule over every part
of our being.
Luke 17:20-21
Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would
come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come
with observation; nor will they say, 'See here!' or 'See there! 'For indeed, the
kingdom of God is within you.”
Christ plainly declared that He was not seeking to establish an earthly
kingdom. He sought no nation, no piece of earthly real estate. His kingdom is in
the hearts of men, women and children.
John 18:36-37
Yahshua answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were
of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be
handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm."
