Pyramid of the Magician at ancient Mayan City of Uxmal, Mexico
Throughout Mesoamerica there are numerous Pre-Columbian (before the appearance of Europeans)
cities that feature pyramids. The Wikipedia entry for “Mesoamerican Pyramids” states, “These
structures were usually step pyramids with temples on top - more akin to the ziggurats of
Mesopotamia than to the pyramids of Ancient Egypt.” As previously mentioned, the Mississippians
of North America built large mounds with flat tops. On the tops were located temples to their gods.
This was also the design of the ziggurats of Babylonia.
It is not difficult to observe the influence of Babylon in these structures from the Americas. One can
also see a great similarity to the pyramids of Egypt.
Pyramid of the Moon at Teotihuacan, Mexico
The image above shows the Pyramid of the Moon. Also at Teotihuacan, Mexico was the even larger
Pyramid of the Sun. These names were given to these structures by the Aztecs who came upon the
ruins centuries after they were abandoned. What the original inhabitants called these structures is
unknown. Following is a model reproduction of the Temple of the Sun at Teotihuacan.
