Saqqara Pyramid Reconstruction
The evolution of the ziggurat, or step pyramid, into the smooth sided pyramid is observed in the
Meidum Pyramid. It was originally constructed as a step pyramid. Subsequently the steps were filled
in and an outer casing added. In its finished form it was of similar dimensions as the Great Pyramid
of Giza, but it has not withstood the ravages of time as well. This is likely due to the fact that the
pyramid was modified to be a smooth pyramid, rather than being constructed as one in its original
form.
Pyramid at Meidum
The Meidum Pyramid suffered several collapses in ancient and medieval times. Arabs of medieval
times, described it as having seven levels, but only three survive today. The seven levels would
correspond identically to the number of levels of Birs Nimrud, the ziggurat constructed by
Nebuchadnezzar.
History has preserved very well the fact that the Egyptians not only shared the tower building
propensities of Babel, but they shared their idolatry as well. The Egyptians corrupted the zodiac into
an idolatrous religion and worshiped deities in the form of humans and beasts, and mixtures of the
two. After Yahweh brought Israel out of Egyptian bondage 3,500 years ago, He spoke the following
words to the people through Moses.
Deuteronomy 4:15-20
“So watch yourselves carefully, since you did not see any form on the day Yahweh spoke to you at
Horeb from the midst of the fire, lest you act corruptly and make a graven image for yourselves in the
