geographic separation, along with the confusion of man’s language, served to keep humanity from
cooperating too much in their pursuit of evil and rebellion against God. Satan’s plan to quickly bring
about a single world government that would unite all humanity in defiance of Yahweh was
consequently dashed. The Bible reveals that a one world government under the rule of Satan’s
appointed man will arise at the very end of the age. That hour is now at hand. This is all the more
reason why Christians should understand the history and significance of Babel. The
political/religious/economic/military union of all mankind in the last days is referred to as Babylon.
From Genesis to Revelation this city has stood as a symbol of opposition to Yahweh and all that is
righteous and holy. The wicked spiritual principles of Babel will come to maturity in these last days.
The apostle Paul wrote the following words.
I Corinthians 8:5-6
For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and
many lords, yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we exist for
Him; and one Lord, Yahshua Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.
To depart from the worship of Yahweh and His Son Yahshua is idolatry and rebellion. The very first
of the Ten Commandments states:
Exodus 20:3-5
You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image - any
likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water
under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a
jealous God...
All of the idolatrous religions of the world are traceable back to Babylon. The prophet Jeremiah
recorded Yahweh’s words of judgment upon Babylon due to its pronounced idolatry.
Jeremiah 50:35-38
“A sword against the Chaldeans,” declares Yahweh, “And against the inhabitants of Babylon, and
against her officials and her wise men!... For it is a land of idols, and they are mad over fearsome
idols.”
The worship of the heavenly bodies, and the beings they represented, was a feature of Babylonian
religion. When mankind spread out from Babylon, they took the idolatry of Babylon with them. One
of the places Babel came to rest was in Egypt. There the people gave themselves over to the worship
of the sun, the moon, and stars, and a host of deities in the image of man and beast. There too they
built towers to rival the great tower at Babel.
