There is sound Biblical reason to believe that the world was one single continent from the time of
Adam until some time after the flood of Noah. One of the most persuasive arguments is that there had
to be some way for the animals that Noah carried on the ark to spread to all of today’s present
continents and islands. If all flesh perished in the flood except that which was kept safe in the ark,
how do we explain the presence of kangaroos and koalas in Australia, or llamas and alpacas in South
America? These animals certainly did not swim across oceans to arrive there. Some attempt to get
around this problem by suggesting that the flood of Noah’s day was local. The Bible does not allow
for such a possibility, however.
Genesis 7:21-24
And all flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing
that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was
the breath of the spirit of life, died. Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of
the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out
from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. And the
water prevailed upon the earth one hundred and fifty days.
